Weir S&H works using a systems-engineering approach, based on the V-Model principles first derived in the software industry. Firstly requirements for any task are defined. This includes the definition of how the task will be accepted as complete. The task is then carried out with the engineer knowing all the requirements of the task along with the acceptance criteria. Upon completion of the task, acceptance is carried out against the acceptance criteria already defined.

This approach is carried out on all tasks, from the design and manufacture of a submarine weapon-handling system to the checking of a hand calculation.
